You can import your LJ using the really cool import feature. You get to choice what you want to import: profile bio, post, comments, friends (openid), custom friend groups, tags and userpics.
Interesting question. I imported my LJ journal before setting up crossposting and I set it up so that my post won't automatically crosspost. My posting form includes a crossposting checkbox with a list of sites, so I choice one or all.
I don't think your flist will be onslaughted, since it is importing information into the database; BUT I don't know for certain and that would be bad. Why not ask? They are amazingly responsive.
