Five+ Ways Being Transgender in Fandom Really Sucks, and Why I Stick With It Anyway

Somewhat in response to this post about how the media is skeeving by on giving us subtext while denying us real gay representation.

I'm glad to see trans fans speaking up, especially on the 'genderswap' thing, because it is rather disturbing to read some of them, wherein the character flip immediately OOC as though stereotypically girlie traits should be hardwired into our XX DNA, thus, if magically our parts are switched, then our brains and spirits change as well, down to our own gender identity.

And that's just… terrible. Many of us know the difference between sex and gender, or at least realize that it's a little more complex than a line up of sex = gender = sexuality. Read the article. It explains why I hit the back button when I'm reading a sexswap and Clark, who has just become physically a girl, decides to think of himself as "she" almost automatically.
