Oh, show. You keep me so conflicted. I liked this ep as much as I disliked the last. It could do with my irrational love for Lady GaGa. And Burt-Kurt plots.
My myeh on Rachel is no secret, but adding Idina Menzel is a great idea. This is one of the better ideas for plots for Rachel. (That was a bit death by preposition, I know.) And anyway, the bit where she IDs her mom because she recognizes her singing voice is so sappy and cliched as to be wonderful and appropriate for this show. I think Glee sometimes forgets what kind of show it is.
I also kind of like that Shelby is so flawed. She thought she knew what she wanted, but then she waffles and she isn’t sure. Real life doesn’t play out the way her theatrical mind says that it should. I still feel like the plot has been srsly rushed because they can’t keep Idina for that many episodes. So I hope that she returns and they do more with this. I like Rachel having a plot that doesn’t revolve around her pathological need for attention/boys.
Jesse fell off the planet, I think. Or Shelby shoved him in a trunk so he’d be quiet while she fucks up her life again.
I can’t wait to listen to Bad Romance Gleestyle on repeat. For starters, as I posted when I saw them doing it live, Chris Colfer just blows you out of the water with his amazingness and rolling Rs. The sheer range of that boy’s voice! Then of course, is Naya (eee) and Jenna, but I was right. Dianna does get a little solo. *hugs her* The longer version has more Amber singing, as well.
(Dianna also does a dorky little dance in her deranged Barbie look while the boys are being Kiss.)
(Also Matt and Mike SPOKE.)
(Also also, Quinn totally went along on spyage because of Mercedes.)
Goddamn, the homophobia from those creeper jocks needs to get hit by a fuckin’ bus. And Finn really needs to not be smacking Kurt. I’ve heard the flailing “why can’t they ACT NORMAL” bullshit before.
And God, when Finn started throwing “faggy” around, I burst into tears. That was SO hurtful, and awful, and then Burt comes in and SHIT. Burt’s another character that I love because he’s flawed. He LOVES his son, deeply, even if he makes mistakes and doesn’t get it all the time, and when he was ripping Finn a new one, and going all anti-hate language, oh. Oh, it made me love him more.
Burt’s flaw (since I mentioned it) is going way overboard. Kurt’s down because he can’t have a solo, so Burt comes up to the school and throws a fit, because that’s something that he can DO. He hears Finn calling Kurt’s decorations “faggy” and he flips out and tells Finn he has to get out.
Puck/Quinn singing is a gift to their shippers. (Although I think it was hard for Dianna to emote with those wacky lashes on.) Finn singing to Kurt is a gift to the Finn/Kurt fangirls. Enjoy, folks.
Tina rocks my socks. Fear her women power! At the beginning of the episode, I was like O.O GOTH/punk =/= Twi-fan! But then she scared the crap out of the principal. Asian vampires! We’re the scariest! I don’t know if there’s anything behind that scene, but I’d like to read it as using people’s ignorance against them.
Which was shortly followed by Finn admitting to Kurt that he had stuff to learn (tons) and keeping poor little Kurt from getting gay bashed (in a red dress), which I was afraid of all episode! Actually, I’m still afraid that this is going to happen when the writers need some drama. I think offscreen Finn works it out with Burt and they become one big happy fam.
Hm. I know that Glee is renewed until S3, so I hope they manage to come up with a tighter plot for S2. The first half had a pretty good tension set up, but it all wrapped up in the midseason finale. The most coherent/consistent one they’ve been doing since they came back is the Hudson/Hummel merging of houses.
I don’t know what the Gay Shark was for this episode. Maybe Brittany suggesting that Tina dress up like a Happy Meal. What do you think?
