Dear Femslash10 Author,
This is my first time I’ve participated in this venture, so I hope this letter is helpful to giving you a creative boost. Thank you in advance for whatever pairing you choose to take on, and as for this letter, dismiss anything that blocks you and just clean from it whatever will be helpful.
As a general note, I ship femslash couples because I love the characters and I’m interested in a particular dynamic between them. Fic that I tend to enjoy most goes from character and develops from there, rather than from imposing whacky antics. So any fic with the pairings I listed, which explores the characters or reveals something about them in the process of their lovin’, will make me happy. I think that you can write something that adheres closely to canon, or a far-flung AU, and it will still be “true” as long as the characters have a seed of who they are to them.
I don’t necessarily have to have an NC-17 scene in the fic to make me happy. If the characters lead you in that direction, fine, if not, don’t feel pressured that there has to be one or else. Other PDA count according to the official rules!
Things that I wouldn’t particularly like to see in the fic: Cheating between the pairing I asked for, non-con between the pairing I asked for, or disrespect towards the characters in the pairings. If you have some lolz to make on Superman or Zed, for example, that’s okay. A little humor can be fun. And I don’t mind dark themes, as long as there’s some light at the end of the tunnel, or some kind of comfort for the hurt. (But I do tend to go for at least a little hurt!)
For further ideas on fandoms, if you want them:
Glee:
Basically, I love Quinn and like to ship her around a little, but not with everyone. Mercedes/Quinn is practically canon for me, but I have a fondness for Quinn and Santana, too. H/C dealing with what the girls are going through that has been ignored on the show would be lovely, or Quinn post finale deciding that she's off boys, but I’m very open on this, since there isn’t enough for these pairings anywhere.
Legend of the Seeker:
I’m sure if I had seen that far in the series, I would be asking for Cara with someone, but I’ve only seen through Denna’s episode, and I greatly desired to see what would happen if she and Kahlan were able to connect with one another on a deeper level and explore those implied parallels between their magics (maybe parallel is the wrong word, maybe it’s a Dark Mirror, but it’s still interesting). If you take this one on, I’ll understand if it goes to a dark place, but I’d really rather it not be too rapey (I might not be able to read that), if you can help it, and give Denna some happy with Kahlan at the end.
Buffyverse:
I’m not sure what to say about this, other than that I loved Faith from the moment I saw her, and the concept of her with Willow made me curious. But I’m willing to explore, as long as Faith gets some respect and some lovin.’
Smallville:
Obviously, my central character of focus is Chloe Sullivan, and I adore her. There is a small handful of people who I coerce into writing her with Kara whenever possible, and of course this is no exception. You can check out the community that I made for them, if you need inspiration.
Chlara Love
If you didn’t see that far in Smallville and want to use another version of Kara (as long as she’s still smart, compassionate, and funny), then I’m sure I could manage to love that as well.
Then again, if you have the desire to ship Chloe with a Bird of Prey or another JLA member, I won’t say no to that either (because of epic epicness!) :D Watchtower/Black Canary seems to be the most natural, but whatever tickles your fancy.
As a side note, if you choose this verse, please don’t choose to make Lex Luthor a mustache twirling bastard. This is about the girls, but he’s one of my favorite characters, and I can’t stand to see him maligned, especially with the connection to the SV verse where he is more of an anti-hero than a villain, and in SV and the DCAU (at least the end) there’s the potential for him to be grayer and more of an ally. I do like narratives of heroes doing heroic things (especially if Chloe and Kara are the heroes), but if that’s your choice, there are tons of other characters that can wear a black hat.
Dollhouse:
I’m a big Caroline fan, I admit, and not just because I love Eliza Dushku. The two pairings I listed are ones that demonstrated potential on the show, and they may get dark, but I wanted to see more on those relationships.
