Slash fandom isn't entirely composed of straight women.
There are lesbians. (whooo, scary) They exist.
There are bisexuals. They exist too.
And there are some gay men and bisexual men, too.
Furthermore, it is NOT an INSULT to read someone as gay. It is not an insult to read a character as gay. There is nothing wrong with "making" characters gay. Just because a character has never been seen buttfucking a man doesn't mean he couldn't be bisexual, closeted, or clueless. Just because a woman has only had relationship with men up to a certain point doesn't mean that she isn't actually a lesbian and, due to the nature of the way we propagate backward ideas of gender, never realized it until she was quite older.
She could also be, I dunno, to some degree bisexual and decide that she prefers her relationships with one or the other. However, if she does settle down with one gender, that doesn't make her STOP being bisexual.
Additionally, daring to write gay issues doesn't make you gay. Even if it did, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
There are days when it doesn't pay to be enlightened.
Decent article; jackassian comments--

And those comments remind me why I semi-regularly claim to hate humanity.
But! There are lesbians. (whooo, scary) - made me laugh. So thank you for that, heh.
