This episode had a very early season FotW feel, but with ties into the overarching plot of this season, which as far as I'm concerned, is the best use of a 'case' format at this point.

Title: Two and a Half Men- BRB LOLLING FOREVER

Sam does the requisite "Is this a case? I am skeptical" bit with Papa Campbell, and even though PC is appropriately snarky, he wishes it were Dean.

Back at the farm, the new Papa Winchester, aka Dean, is being a crazycakes, which he knows, but can't stop being anyway. Ben is about thirteen now, so he's kind of sullen, but not as fun as he was at ten. He wants to be a hunter and yet we are denied cute training scenes. This might be a plot point later.

Sam lures Dean back into the hunt with babies. Fanficcers… get started.

We get our first scene of Dean showing Lisa how to use a gun. She threatens to shoot him if he doesn't go ahead and go, like she knows he wants to. Lol.

In this episode and last, we have a theme of returning back to John, who has fallen out of the shiny glowy remembrance that the boys once had of him. But now, Dean is in his shoes, and supposedly can understand a little more what a bind John was in (even if he was a dick). He doesn't want to fuck up Ben quite so royally (I don't think that he COULD, but hell, Dean could still spawn an Adam somewhere). We've had two beasties so far that had to do with fathers: the D'jinn coming after Dean because they killed his father and a slew of shifter babies as the Alpha shifter increases their numbers. This development fits with what we know about shifters, but that he's taking them in to parent them is NEW. The one in the Monster Movie episode and the one from S1 seem to not have known where they came from. They just grew up as freaks and became twisted and mean because of course people were afraid of them.

Did Papa Shifter decide that it was time to be a good dad? Finally?

(He is also a RAPIST.)

Anyway, I'm loving Lisa. She's grounded and serious, and not at all needy to keep Dean with her. She can survive without him, and has gone without a man for a long time. She can go without again; she's not histrionic about the thought of Dean leaving and can support herself and Ben independently, although she wants to keep part of him. It feels analogous to a cop's wife or an army wife. Go, but come back in one piece. Somehow, I think if he doesn't, though, she'll help him piece himself back together again.

Right now we're teetering on the edge about how much Sam knows. He might just be getting snowed by the Campbells, who I have a hard time believing are entirely who they say they are anyway. Even if the Winchesters hadn't heard of THEM, the Campbells would have heard of the Winchesters, as they became fairly well known in the hunting world. Judgment aside… he could know what Papa Campbell is up to, but not the degree of it, and be complicit to the degree that he knows that something has to be done to stem the rising tide of creatures. It would hurt, though, to find out that he tricked Dean and was bringing the baby to Papa Campbell as bait. So maybe he's completely apple pie optimistic about this and doesn't have any idea what they're doing. (This is also unflattering because it makes him dumb, I guess.)

Whatever else, I don't think Sam knows about the Big Bad that Papa Campbell is on the phone with. MengeleEven if he is in on the experiments.

The Campbells continue to be creepy. Christian in particular… Because whether Sam knew or not, that scene where he hands the baby over to them and they act like they're going to adopt it… so staged. They're creepy and they look down on Dean in particular. I hates them.

Other things of ♥

Dean is ADORABUBBLE with a baby.
There are going to be SO many fanvids from the stuff in this ep.
Dean is also adorabubbly protective over the monster-baby.
The bit where Sam sees Dean putting the baby to bed, and they don't SAY it, but you know Sam is thinking about how Dean cared for him as a bebbe? Adorabubble.
Sam: "Not all hunters are headcases. Papa C is like you!" Dean: "I'M a headcase!"
Bobby John? Funny that Dean thinks of Bobby first, and Sam thinks of John. Hm.
