Lex looked up from what he was doing to see his three year old resting his chin on folded arms as he leaned on the side of the chair to stare up at his daddy. A warm smile touched Lex's lips and he reached over to pet the back of his son's soft, black hair.
"What is it, Kon? Hm?"
"I love you, Daddy. Will you… come play with us in the play room?" he asked sweetly. His eyes widened, and he sucked in his lips, blinking up at his father.
Lex raised a brow and smiled wider. He'd only been working for a little while, but Kon was very attached to Lex these days, and Lex could understand that, especially given the circumstances. He could hardly deny his boy right now.
"I wouldn't mind that at all. Are you and Papa having fun?"
"Yes! Lotsa fun." Kon picked up the Batman doll that he'd dragged in there with him and waved it enthusiastically.
Lex chuckled. He put both hands on either arm of the chair and pushed himself up slowly. He should have probably called for Clark's help, but he made it, and took a moment to balance himself before looking back down at his son. Kon giggled and covered his mouth with one hand as Lex took the other and slowly walked them out of his office.
"You feel okay, Daddy?" Kon asked anxiously.
"Oh, I feel pretty good." Lex squeezed his hand. "Your sisters will be here in a week or so."
Kon tucked his Batdoll under his arm and reached up to smooth his little fingers over Lex's large belly. The boy always jumped in surprise when one of the twins kicked or moved, but Lex found the devotion that Kon already had for his sisters to be touching.
"C'mon already!" Kon insisted.
"Unfortunately, we have to be patient. They'll get here when they're ready."
"Okay," Kon replied with a long-suffering sigh.
Lex laughed again. Children were endlessly entertaining.
By the time they approached the playroom, Lex had his hand on the small of his back. His doctor had asked him to stay off of his feet as much as possible, and although Lex disliked being restricted like that, it was hard enough to get around without Clark's help. The twins were heavy. He might as well listen to his doctor for once.
"Clark? Oh…" As they stepped into the playroom, Lex looked up at the large purple banner reading, "Happy Mommy's Day!" He took it in for a moment as Clark came over to his side and enveloped him in a big hug.
"We love you, Daddy!" Kon cheered, pumping his fists with the Batdoll in one hand.
"I'm not exactly a mother," Lex protested, accepting a kiss and a belly rub from his husband.
"Close enough. Kon heard about it from some of the other kids at the LexCorp preschool," Clark explained. "They were talking about what they were going to do for their moms and making cards and things, and he felt like we should do something for you."
"But I'm not…" Lex's brow creased as the twin on the left shifted, trying to squirm around. Unfortunately, there wasn't much room to play around in there anymore. "…really a mother."
Clark cupped the bottom of Lex's belly. "I think the twins beg to differ."
Kon giggled and kissed the side of Lex's belly. "Just 'cause you're Daddy doesn't mean you can't be a mommy."
"C'mon, big guy. Let's get your daddy comfortable." Clark wrapped his arm around Lex's shoulders and moved him toward the sofa next to Kon's little play castle. They had covered the area with pillows, and once Lex was leaning back against them, Clark slipped Lex's shoes off and began rubbing his feet.
"Oh." Lex laughed softly. "So you're just using this as an excuse to pamper me?"
"Maybe." Clark smirked.
Kon curled up next to Lex with a sigh. "Can we get um… the card?"
"Yeah, why don't you get that for daddy?" Clark worked on the arch of Lex's left foot. He met Lex's eyes warmly. "I just want you to feel good."
"Well, I didn't feel bad."
Clark leaned over and kissed Lex's toes. "It can always get better."
"I made it!" Kon announced, running back into the room holding a sparkly card.
"Did you? Oh, wow. This is beautiful." Lex reached out and accepted up the card. He hugged Kon around his shoulders and pulled the boy against his side as he read the card. Kon had stuck shiny silver stars all over the piece of blue construction paper along with the slanting words "Have a Grate Mommy's Day!!!" scrawled across the front. Then, along the bottom in tiny letters "I luv u!" which was followed by smiley faces.
Clark was laughing softly, and Lex covered his mouth with his hand.
"This is perfect," Lex declared, and then he pressed a kiss to Kon's head. "Thank you very much."
"You're welcome!" Kon replied with a firm nod.
"You're both too much," Lex whispered, blinking quickly.
Clark crawled up to his side and kissed his lips, petting Lex's cheek gently. "There's more to come."
"That's enough. More than." Lex smiled as Clark rubbed their noses together.
"Nope. Not enough." Clark kissed Lex's forehead and sat up. "Hold on, just one second."
"Well, I'm too comfortable to get up." Lex laughed softly and cuddled his boy to him as he watched Clark's retreating back.
His husband disappeared from view and reappeared with a basket and a long-necked bottle of ginger ale in the other. Lex narrowed his eyes as Clark sat by them. There was a naughty smirk on the man's lips.
"What did you do?" Lex demanded.
"To be fair, it was my mom who did it." Clark lifted a cake out of the basket, along with plates and began to cut into it.
Lex's eyes grew wide at the rich chocolate layers and the cream and chunks of cherry in between. "Ohhh, black forest cake. Your mother loves me."
"Someone loves you," Clark said, licking white icing off of his finger. He scooped a bite on his fork and held it up. "Open up."
Lex shook his head slightly, but quickly gave in and opened his mouth wide, letting Clark feed him. Kon giggled beside them. Clark gave the next bite to Kon, and as the boy chewed happily, Lex took a napkin from the basket and wiped his mouth.
"You like?" Lex smiled at Kon's enthusiastic nod. "I think that's my favorite cake."
"I like it too." Clark took a big bite, so that his right cheek pouched out. "I generally like pie, though."
"I know. We'll get you a nice pie on Father's Day."
"If we're not too busy taking care of these two." Clark rubbed his hand over Lex's belly.
"Nuh-uh. We have to celebrate your day too, right Kon?"
The boy nodded, but opened his mouth for more cake. Clark laughed and obliged. "Not too much. You'll be bouncing off the walls. And now more for Daddy."
"Mm. Fine. Make me a whale." Lex licked his lips slowly, then opened his mouth.
Clark laughed. "Stop that."
"Stop what?"
"Doing what got you pregnant with twins!"
"Never." Lex closed his mouth around the moist cake and closed his eyes, letting the burst of chocolate and cherry fill his senses. Clark curled up by Lex's other side, feeding his boys cake and ginger ale in turns, and rubbing on Lex lovingly.
It wasn't long before Kon was mostly covered in chocolate, so Clark stood up and lifted the boy to his hip. "I'm going to give the little master chef a bath and see if he'll take a nap. Be right back, okay?"
"I might take a nap myself," Lex joked.
"Not sleepy!" Kon argued. He reached for his Batdoll, which Lex held up for him.
"No? Cause I'm sleepy," Lex informed his son. "The girls run around all the time, and make me tired."
"I don't have girls in me," Kon protested. The boy never wanted to nap when he knew things would be going on.
"We can watch a movie when you wake up," Lex offered. Kon pouted anyway as Clark took him away to deal with their firstborn mudpie. Lying back on the pillows, Lex closed his eyes for a moment and moved both hands over his expansive belly. This would likely be his last pregnancy, and although he couldn't say he loved the experience, he did admit that the one thing he really treasured was being able to feel his children move inside of him.
Well, that and the sex.
His lips were smirking when he felt Clark lifting him up. Lex opened his eyes and laughed as Clark swung him around easily.
"Good thing you have superstrength, hm?" Lex teased.
"Not needed. You're a feather," Clark replied, carrying Lex into the other room.
"Perhaps I am. A feather on Jupiter."
Clark didn't answer, but gave Lex a long kiss as he paused in front of the television room. He pulled back, just slightly, their lips still touching, and said, "Now I'm gonna pamper mommy for a little while. How does that sound?"
Lex chuckled and gave Clark a shorter kiss on the lips. "It sounds great."
With a grin, Clark entered the room and deposited Lex on the large sofa. He crawled over him and began kissing Lex's neck tenderly, and Lex sighed, running his hand down Clark's back. Today was going to be a fabulous day, from the banner, to the card, to the cake, to this, and to whatever else his boys had waiting for him.
"And by the way, Clark, today is the only day of the year you're allowed to call me "Mommy.""
